Those first gen Escapes used the Toyota hybrid system. They were "interesting" to say the least...

We test drove one of them back in ~07 I think and it was interesting but the CVT and how strange it was compared to a standard transmission threw us off and we decided to just keep our explorer longer.

Come to think of it, I don’t see many first or second gens of any powertrain around here these days (south central PA).
